I usually use fine linen, but on this I tried medium weave cotton for a change, to see the effects of the threads in broken colour areas.
But, however, the weave pattern might interfere with your screen pixels.
Oil on canvas, 30 x 41 cms. First finished January 2009, re-worked July 2011.
This summer (2011) I have been experimenting putting new layers, both transparent and opaque, over old paintings. Just to see what can be done.
All of these canvases, of which this is one, were painted "alla prima" before I discovered my current glazing techniques.
My mother passed away this August after a brief and very brave fight against cancer so I very much wanted to improve the likeness of her.
